Wed Oct 09 11:20:36 UTC 2024: ## SpiceJet Soars: Airline Settles Major Dispute, Plans Fleet Expansion and New Markets

**Gurgaon, India** – Indian budget airline SpiceJet is on the rise, shaking off financial challenges and gearing up for significant growth. The airline’s stock price surged by 6.6% today, following a major settlement with aircraft lessor Babcock & Brown Aircraft Management (BBAM). This settlement, worth US$ 22.5 million, resolves a long-standing dispute over US$ 131.9 million, bringing significant relief to the airline’s debt burden.

This comes on the heels of a recent successful fund raise of Rs 30 billion through a QIP last month. Combined with this new capital injection, the settlement puts SpiceJet in a strong position to expand its operations.

**Fleet Expansion and New Horizons**

SpiceJet has announced plans to bring all grounded planes back into service within the next 18-24 months. The airline will invest Rs 4 billion in spare parts, maintenance, and engineering, and will also wet-lease aircraft to quickly increase its capacity. Seven grounded planes are expected to return to operation by the end of this year, followed by an additional 10 planes by the end of November.

Looking further ahead, SpiceJet aims to have 100 aircraft in its fleet by 2026, capitalizing on the growing demand for air travel. This expansion will also see the airline exploring new domestic and international markets, strengthening its competitive edge in an industry dominated by larger players.

**A Focus on the Future**

SpiceJet’s plans for the future include investments in technology and infrastructure to modernize its operations and enhance the passenger experience. The airline is also expected to focus on strategic partnerships to optimize its route network and increase profitability.

**Investor Confidence Restored**

These positive developments have boosted investor confidence in SpiceJet. The settlement with BBAM and the airline’s proactive approach to debt reduction have been well received by the market, as evidenced by the recent surge in the stock price.
