Wed Oct 09 09:03:24 UTC 2024: ## Curran Disappointed at Missing Out on Test Spot Despite Stokes’ Injury
England all-rounder Sam Curran has expressed his disappointment at being overlooked for a Test spot despite Ben Stokes’ injury. Stokes has been out of action since suffering a hamstring injury in August, leaving a vacancy in the squad. Curran saw this as an opportunity to return to the Test team, as he has not played a Test match since the series against India in August 2021.
Curran felt the recent Test against Pakistan in Multan would have been the perfect opportunity for his return, given his past experience in the format. He was however disappointed to learn that he was not selected for the match.
“I’ll be totally honest, when Stokesy got injured, I did probably think that was my way back into the Test team,” Curran admitted. He further explained that he had recently met with England’s director of cricket, Rob Key, to discuss his future in the team.
Despite his disappointment, Curran remains committed to proving his worth and is eager to meet the criteria needed for Test selection. He acknowledges the evolving selection process, where players are chosen based on specific skills, and understands that his current skill set may not be a perfect fit for the team’s current needs.
Curran will now focus on the upcoming white-ball series against West Indies in the Caribbean. He is determined to make his mark across all formats, and his ultimate ambition remains to secure a permanent spot in England’s Test team.
