The tournament will see legendary cricketers like Suresh Raina, Dinesh Karthik, Stuart Binny, Chris Gayle, and Mohammad Kaif compete in a series of matches at the newly upgraded Bakshi Stadium. The stadium, with a seating capacity of over 30,000, will host seven matches from October 9th to 16th.

The arrival of the players, many of whom haven’t been to Kashmir since the 1980s, was met with a warm welcome. The Southern Super Stars, led by Dinesh Karthik, were seen making their way through Srinagar airport, with Martin Guptill among the notable figures. The Toyam Hyderabad team, led by Suresh Raina, includes players like Stuart Binny and Shaun Marsh.

This historic event is being met with immense enthusiasm from the Kashmiri people. “It is going to be something new for me and for the cricket enthusiasts. It will be the first time we see superstars, who have earned their names, playing in Kashmir. I am excited,” shared Sajad Ahmad, a local athlete.

The Legends League is seen as a potential catalyst for bigger cricketing events in the valley. “We should have IPL and other league matches here in Srinagar. Maybe this league will pave the way for something more,” expressed Muneer Ahmad, another resident.

Security is paramount, with senior police officers and various security agencies developing a comprehensive plan to ensure the safety of players, officials, and spectators.

The tournament, which kicked off on September 20th, will conclude with the final match in Srinagar on October 16th. The six teams participating are India Capitals, Gujarat Giants, Konark Suryas, Manipal Tigers, Southern Super Stars, and Toyam Hyderabad.

The return of cricket legends to Kashmir is a testament to the region’s growing popularity as a sporting destination. With a legacy of cricketing passion, Kashmir hopes this tournament will be a stepping stone for a brighter future for the sport in the valley.
