Wed Oct 09 10:03:50 UTC 2024: ## DYFI Leader, School Teacher Arrested for Job Scam in Kasaragod

**Kasaragod:** A DYFI leader and school teacher, Sachitha Rai, has been arrested by the Kumbla police for allegedly defrauding job seekers, including a young woman who lost Rs 15 lakh. Rai, known for her political activism and criticisms of the BJP-RSS, promised a clerk position at the Central Plantation Crops Research Institute (CPCRI) to the victim, Nishmitha Shetty.

Shetty, an undergraduate, alleged that Rai collected money from her in several installments between May and August 2023. Rai reportedly claimed she could secure the job through a contact in Karnataka and even showed Shetty a cheque of Rs 72 lakh as proof.

Police investigations reveal that Rai collected around Rs 2 crore from multiple job seekers and transferred Rs 72 lakh to her contact, suspected to have links with the BJP or claim such connections.

The DYFI, CPM’s youth wing, confirmed Rai’s expulsion from the Kasaragod District Committee 10 days ago, citing her relocation to Kozhikode for maternity leave. However, the party claimed they were unaware of the complaints against her.

Shetty, who borrowed money from her husband and pawned her jewelry to pay Rai, approached the police after failing to get her money back. She also revealed that Rai had duped another person with the promise of a teaching job at the Central University of Kerala.

Kumbla Police are expecting more complaints to be filed against Rai, who comes from a CPM family and is an active member of the party. The police have booked her under Section 420 of the IPC for cheating.
