**Thiruvananthapuram:** The much-anticipated Onam Bumper Lottery draw concluded today with the grand prize of Rs. 25 crore going to a lucky ticket holder in Wayanad. The winning ticket, TG434222, was sold by NGR Lucky Center, owned by Nagraj in Sultan Bathery.
While the official prize amount is Rs. 25 crore, after taxes, the winner will receive Rs. 12.88 crore. This includes deductions for agent commission, income tax, surcharge, and health and education cess.
The agent who sold the winning ticket, Nagraj, expressed his delight at selling the bumper ticket. “I bought the ticket from S J Lucky Center owner Aneesh in Panamaram,” he said. “I only know that the ticket was sold a month ago. Many people buy lottery tickets from my shop, including those from other states. I don’t remember who I sold this particular ticket to,” he added.
The lottery department has confirmed that 20 people will receive a second prize of Rs. 1 crore each, with a third prize of Rs. 50 lakh. The remaining prizes include Rs. 5 lakh, Rs. 2 lakh, and Rs. 500.
Palakkad district continues to be a hotbed for lottery ticket sales, with over 71 lakh tickets sold by 11 am today. Thiruvananthapuram and Thrissur followed closely with 9.50 lakh and 8.61 lakh tickets sold, respectively.
The lottery department has initiated a comprehensive awareness campaign to discourage fake lotteries and promote responsible gaming.
This year, the Onam Bumper Lottery saw the sale of 90 lakh tickets, translating to a total value of Rs. 351.56 crore. However, only 5.34 lakh people are eligible to win any prize. While the total prize money amounts to Rs. 125.54 crore, the government is estimated to make a profit of Rs. 213.46 crore.
The Onam Bumper Lottery has been a significant source of revenue for the Kerala government, and this year’s results are expected to contribute significantly to state coffers.
