**Chennai:** In response to a planned rally by Brahmins in Chennai on November 4th, the Dravidar Kazhagam (DK) has announced a counter-protest for the following day. DK leader K. Veeramani issued a statement condemning the Brahmin rally and accusing them of historical oppression and continued dominance in education and employment.
Veeramani highlighted the historical discrimination faced by non-Brahmins, citing the caste system enshrined in religious texts and legal systems that denied them basic rights. He specifically criticized the Brahmin community’s appropriation of the Bhagavad Gita as a sacred text while disregarding its offensive passages on women and non-Brahmins.
He further pointed out the overrepresentation of Brahmins in positions of power, particularly in the judiciary and civil services, despite their minority status. Veeramani argued that the planned Brahmin rally was a ploy to intimidate the ruling DMK and to further their vested interests.
The DK has urged all Dravidians to join their protest on November 5th in Chennai to demonstrate their solidarity and demand equal opportunities for all. They emphasized that they are the true victims of historical injustice and the rightful claimants of equal rights.
This announcement comes amidst rising tensions between the Dravidian movement and the Brahmin community. It is anticipated that the DK’s counter-protest will draw large crowds and further escalate the ongoing debate on caste equality.
