Mon Oct 07 07:30:00 UTC 2024: ## Rooney Sees Red as Plymouth Argyle Secure Late Win

Plymouth Argyle manager Wayne Rooney was sent off during Saturday’s dramatic Championship match against Blackburn Rovers, despite his side ultimately securing a 2-1 victory in the 97th minute.

Rooney, who took over the reins at Plymouth this summer after a tumultuous spell with Derby County and Birmingham City, has been facing a challenging start to his managerial career. While Plymouth have shown signs of improvement in recent weeks, Rooney’s frustration boiled over when Blackburn scored an 86th minute equalizer that the Plymouth side believed was a foul.

The former Manchester United and England captain was deemed to have reacted excessively to the referee’s decision and was shown a red card. Despite being sent to the stands, Rooney was able to celebrate with his players after Morgan Whittaker secured the winning goal in the dying moments of the game.

This is the first red card Rooney has received as a manager, adding to his impressive tally of eight red cards during his playing days. Plymouth’s assistant head coach, Pete Shuttleworth, defended Rooney’s reaction, highlighting his passion for the game.

The victory moved Plymouth to 14th place in the Championship, just five points behind the playoff positions. Rooney’s side will next face Cardiff City on Saturday, October 19th.
