Tue Oct 08 10:31:58 UTC 2024: ## Maldives President Visits Taj Mahal, Strengthens India Ties During Bilateral Visit
Maldives President Mohamed Muizzu, currently on a four-day bilateral visit to India, made a special trip to Agra to marvel at the iconic Taj Mahal with his wife, First Lady Sajidha Mohamed. Impressed by the mausoleum’s intricate beauty, President Muizzu wrote in the visitors’ book, “It is tough to describe this mausoleum’s beauty as words simply cannot do it justice. This mesmerising intricacy and attention to detail is a testament to love and architectural excellence.”
The couple was welcomed to Uttar Pradesh by Cabinet Minister Yogendra Upadhyay on behalf of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. Upadhyay presented them with a replica of the Taj Mahal, and the Maldivian first couple posed for photographs with the 17th-century monument as their backdrop. To accommodate the presidential visit, the Taj Mahal was closed to the public for two hours.
President Muizzu also visited Shilpgram, an open-air crafts village, where he was greeted by traditional performances before departing for the airport.
The visit was a significant part of President Muizzu’s bilateral talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday. The two leaders signed several important documents, including a currency swap agreement, the launch of the Rupay card in the Maldives, and the inauguration of a new runway at the Hanimadhoo International Airport. These agreements are expected to further strengthen the strategic partnership between India and the Maldives.
