**Mirpur, Bangladesh:** Mayank Yadav, who made his international debut for India in the first T20I against Bangladesh on Sunday, revealed that head coach Gautam Gambhir’s advice helped him perform well in his maiden outing.
Yadav, who picked up a wicket and conceded just 21 runs in his 4 overs, including a maiden over, said Gambhir advised him to focus on the basics and not treat the match as a big occasion. “Gautam bhai told me to just stick to the basics, not try anything different and just focus on the things that have worked for me. He said don’t treat this as an international match. That’s what worked for me,” Yadav said in the post-match interview.
The young fast bowler, who had impressed in the IPL with speeds exceeding 156 kmph, also revealed that he focused on maintaining a good line and length rather than pace in his debut match. “I was focusing on bowling the right length rather than just pace. I was trying to bowl a good line and length to keep the runs down,” he said.
Yadav’s successful debut was further aided by captain Rohit Sharma’s advice to focus on the basics and adapt his pace to the slow Gwalior pitch.
Mayank Yadav’s impressive debut performance has given a boost to India’s bowling attack and he will look to continue his form in the upcoming matches.
