Abu Dhabi, October 7: South African batting coach JP Duminy showcased his exceptional fielding skills in the third and final ODI against Ireland, proving that he still has what it takes to perform at the highest level.
Stepping onto the field as a substitute in the final over of Ireland’s innings, Duminy, known for his athleticism and brilliant saves during his playing days, made a sensational stop at short third. With Harry Tector’s top edge heading towards the boundary, Duminy displayed quick reflexes and athleticism to prevent the runs.
This fielding display was a welcome sight for the South African team, especially considering their struggles in the sweltering Abu Dhabi heat. Duminy, who retired from international cricket in 2019 after a highly successful career spanning 199 ODIs, 81 T20Is, and 46 Test matches, showed that his skills are still sharp.
Despite Duminy’s heroics, the Irish side managed to reach 284/9 in their 50 overs. Lizaad Williams was the star performer for South Africa, taking 4/56 in his 10 overs. The Proteas will be looking to wrap up the series with a victory in the third and final ODI.
