Tue Oct 08 02:13:07 UTC 2024: ## BJP Wins Haryana With Landslide Victory, Omar Abdullah to Lead Jammu & Kashmir

**New Delhi:** The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has secured a landslide victory in the Haryana Assembly elections, winning over 50 seats out of 90. The Congress party, despite an early lead, has fallen behind with 34 seats.

The BJP has reportedly initiated preparations for government formation following the impressive victory. Party President J.P. Nadda has called for an emergency meeting of general secretaries later today.

Meanwhile, in Jammu & Kashmir, the National Conference (NC), led by Omar Abdullah, has secured a clear majority in the assembly elections, forming a coalition with the Indian National Congress. The NC has won 40 seats while the BJP stands at 29 and the Congress at 6. Notably, Omar Abdullah is leading in both the constituencies he contested.

The counting of votes for both Haryana and Jammu & Kashmir, which commenced at 8:00 AM today, has defied exit poll predictions. While exit polls had predicted a close contest in Jammu & Kashmir and a strong win for the Congress in Haryana, the results paint a completely different picture.

The BJP had faced several hurdles in the Haryana elections, including farmer protests, athlete protests, and the recent defection of Ashok Tanwar to the Congress. However, the party managed to secure a comfortable majority.

The National Conference and Congress alliance had predicted a strong win in Jammu & Kashmir. However, the party has made a deliberate move to bring the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) into the coalition in case of a close finish. The Governor’s special power to nominate five members in the event of a hung assembly might also play a key role in government formation.

Both Haryana and Jammu & Kashmir have 90 seats in their respective assemblies. The voting process in Haryana was conducted in a single phase, registering a voter turnout of 67.90%. In Jammu & Kashmir, the elections took place in three phases with a voter turnout of 63.45%.
