Sun Oct 06 19:37:40 UTC 2024: ## India vs Bangladesh T20 Series 2024: Shivam Dube Ruled Out, Tilak Varma Replaces Him

Gwalior, October 5th, 2024: A major blow to the Indian team just one day before the start of the three-match T20 series against Bangladesh. Star all-rounder Shivam Dube has been ruled out of the series due to a back injury.

The Indian senior selection committee has announced Tilak Varma as Dube’s replacement. Varma will join the team in Gwalior on Sunday morning, just in time for the first match.

While the BCCI has not disclosed details of Dube’s injury, it’s unclear how severe it is. He was practicing with the team in Gwalior until recently. As per BCCI regulations, Dube, a central contract player, will focus on his fitness under the supervision of the National Cricket Academy medical team.

Dube, a part of the T20 World Cup-winning squad, was also included in the recent tour of Sri Lanka, although he didn’t perform notably. He also played in the recently concluded Duleep Trophy, scoring only 34 runs in two innings.

Tilak Varma’s return to the Indian team comes after a break since January 2024. He last played a T20 for India against Afghanistan in Mohali on January 11th, 2024. He was not selected for the 2024 T20 World Cup squad and missed the Sri Lanka tour. Now, he gets a chance to make a comeback.

Varma has played 16 T20 matches for India, scoring 336 runs at an average of 33.60 and a strike rate of 139.41, with 2 half-centuries to his name. His highest score is 55 runs.
