**New Delhi, India** – In a move aimed at bolstering economic ties and tourism cooperation, India and the Maldives jointly inaugurated a new runway at Hanimadhoo International Airport and launched the RuPay card in the island nation on Monday.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Maldivian President Mohamed Muizzu virtually inaugurated the runway, which was built under an Indian Line of Credit of USD 132 million. The project involved a complete overhaul of the airport, including a new runway, ATC tower, ARFF block, hangar, cargo facilities, and passenger terminal building.

The event also saw the official launch of the RuPay card in the Maldives. The move is expected to facilitate cashless transactions for Indian tourists, making travel more convenient and cost-effective.
