**Vatican City** – Pope Francis has announced that he will hold a Consistory for the creation of new Cardinals on December 8, 2024, coinciding with the Feast of the Immaculate Conception. The event, which will be held in the Vatican, will feature representatives from various countries around the globe.
This Consistory will take place ahead of the 2025 Jubilee of Hope and after the conclusion of the Second Session of the Synod on Synodality. Pope Francis last held a consistory for new Cardinals on September 30, 2023, prior to the First Session of the Synod on Synodality.
The Pope emphasized the global representation of the Cardinal-elects, stating that their diverse origins reflect the universality of the Church and its mission to spread God’s merciful love. He also highlighted the close connection between the See of Peter in Rome and the various Churches throughout the world.
The Pope urged the faithful to pray for the future Cardinals, “that by confirming their adherence to Christ, the merciful and faithful High Priest, they may help me in my ministry as Bishop of Rome for the good of all God’s holy people.”
With the addition of these new Cardinals, the College of Cardinals will expand to 256 members, with 141 serving as Cardinal electors.
