Mon Oct 07 18:12:44 UTC 2024: ## Goddess Skandamata Honored on Fifth Day of Navratri 2024

**New Delhi, October 7th, 2024:** As the vibrant festival of Navratri continues, today marks the fifth day of celebrations dedicated to the worship of Goddess Skandamata. This nine-day festival, which began on October 3rd and will culminate on October 13th, sees devotees across India paying homage to the nine forms of Goddess Durga.

Skandamata, the fifth avatar, is known for her fierce yet compassionate nature. Riding a lion and carrying the child Murugan (also known as Kartikeya) in her lap, she is believed to bestow blessings of prosperity, power, and salvation upon her devotees.

To honor Skandamata, devotees wake up early, bathe in holy water, and adorn themselves in new clothes. Offerings of flowers, kumkum, incense sticks, ganjagal, yellow flowers, and ghee are presented to the goddess. A special bhog consisting of bananas is prepared for this auspicious occasion.

The day is associated with the color white, symbolizing purity and innocence. Wearing white clothing on this Monday is considered auspicious and is believed to help devotees become worthy of the Goddess’s blessings.

According to Hindu tradition, devotees are encouraged to focus entirely on their prayers to Skandamata, free from worldly distractions, to receive her divine grace. The Brahma muhurat, considered an auspicious time for worship, will begin at 4:33 AM and end at 5:21 AM on October 8th.

With the festival in full swing, devotees across the country are celebrating the divine feminine energy represented by Goddess Durga. The upcoming days promise more vibrant rituals, spiritual practices, and cultural festivities as Navratri progresses.
