**KOCHI:** A high-profile drug case has shaken the Malayalam film industry after it was revealed that top Mollywood stars visited notorious gangster Om Prakash hours before his arrest. While the Ernakulam Judicial First Class Magistrate Court granted bail to Om Prakash and his associate Shihas on Monday, the revelation has sparked controversy.
The remand report, submitted by the police seeking denial of bail, named actor Sreenath Bhasi and actress Prayaga Martin as visitors to Om Prakash’s room at a five-star hotel in Kochi on Sunday. The report, which lists around 20 individuals, including popular actors, suggests that banned drugs were consumed within the room.
Police alleged that Om Prakash and his associates had procured drugs from abroad and sold them at a DJ party in Kochi. They had initially demanded the questioning of Sreenath and Prayaga, but lack of evidence regarding drug use prevented their detention.
Om Prakash and Shihas were granted bail after the medical examination failed to prove drug use. However, the police had seized cocaine from Shihas’ possession during the arrest.
Om Prakash, who was apprehended in Kochi for possession of intoxicants, claims his visit was solely for a DJ party in Bolgatty. Police, however, received information regarding suspicious activity at the five-star hotel, prompting an investigation by the narcotics department.
The case, which has raised concerns about the extent of drug use in the entertainment industry, is likely to continue unfolding with further investigations.
