Mon Oct 07 03:58:04 UTC 2024: ## Bangladesh Captain Blames Batting Woes for Humiliating T20I Loss to India

Gwalior, India: Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto has pointed the finger at his team’s batting performance following their embarrassing 7-wicket defeat to India in the first T20I of the three-match series on Sunday.

Shanto expressed his belief that Bangladeshi batters are not accustomed to scoring high totals in the T20 format, citing their struggles to reach 180 runs. This lack of experience, he argued, is hampering the team’s overall performance. “We have the ability, but we have room for improvement in our skills,” he acknowledged. “We have been batting in this way for the last 10 years. Sometimes we do well. We have to make some changes, perhaps where we practice back home. We play on 140-150 wickets at home. Our batters don’t know how to score 180 runs.”

Shanto also expressed concern about the team’s powerplay performance, emphasizing the need for his players to take more responsibility and score aggressively in the first six overs. “Powerplay is definitely a worry,” he stated. “We have to keep the wickets in the first six overs and score runs in those. Otherwise, for those coming in next, it becomes too challenging for them.”

Despite the team’s poor showing in the first T20I, Shanto maintains that Bangladesh is capable of much more. He attributed the defeat to the batting unit’s collective failure and reiterated his belief in the team’s potential. “I wouldn’t say we played badly,” he said. “We are a better team than this. We haven’t done well in this format for a long time, but I don’t believe we are such a bad team.”

The second T20I between India and Bangladesh will take place on Wednesday, October 9th at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. The Bangladeshi team will need to significantly improve their batting performance if they hope to avoid another disappointing loss in the series.
