**Bhubaneswar, Odisha:** The Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA) in Bhubaneswar is set to undergo a significant transformation with the announcement of a new terminal and the installation of an Instrument Landing System (ILS) CAT II. This development, revealed by Union Minister of Civil Aviation Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu during a review meeting, is part of a larger expansion plan aimed at meeting the rising demand for air travel in the region.
The new terminal, expected to be completed within two years, will boost the airport’s capacity to handle up to 80 lakh passengers annually, effectively doubling the current capacity of 40 lakh passengers. In addition, the existing ILS CAT I will be upgraded to CAT II within a month, enhancing the airport’s ability to operate during adverse weather conditions, ensuring safer and more reliable operations.
Beyond the new terminal and ILS upgrade, the airport is also set to see improvements in passenger amenities and runway extension. These initiatives are part of the government’s commitment to establishing Odisha as a major hub within India’s civil aviation sector.
The expansion is expected to significantly boost regional connectivity, with new routes planned to connect Bhubaneswar to cities like Jammu, Surat, Jaipur, and Vizag. These new connections aim to meet the growing demand for air travel and fuel the region’s economic development.
The new terminal and ILS CAT II upgrade represent a significant milestone in the development of Bhubaneswar’s aviation infrastructure, promising enhanced travel experiences for passengers and improved connectivity for the region.
