Gwalior, October 7: India started their T20 series against Bangladesh with a commanding 7-wicket victory at the Madhavrao Scindia Stadium on Saturday.
Electing to bowl first after winning the toss, India restricted Bangladesh to a modest 127 runs in 19.5 overs. Arshdeep Singh and Varun Chakravarthy were the pick of the Indian bowlers, claiming 3 wickets each.
Bangladesh’s innings was hampered by a string of early wickets, with only Mehdi Hasan Miraz (35) and Najmul Hossain Shanto (27) offering significant resistance.
Chasing a low target, India made light work of the chase. They reached the target in 11.5 overs, losing just 3 wickets.
The key partnership came between Hardik Pandya and Nitish Kumar Reddy, who added a quickfire 52 runs for the fourth wicket off just 24 balls.
Pandya finished the game in style, smashing a six off Taskin Ahmed in the 12th over to secure India’s victory. He scored a blistering 39 off 16 balls, studded with 5 fours and 2 sixes.
Sanju Samson and Suryakumar Yadav (both scoring 29 runs) provided a solid start to the chase, before Samson fell in the 8th over.
With this win, India take a 1-0 lead in the series. The second T20 will be played in Delhi on October 9.
The debutants for India, Mayank Yadav and Nitish Kumar Reddy, impressed on their first international outing.
