Sun Oct 06 17:04:48 UTC 2024: ## Varun Chakravarthy’s Comeback Rewarded for Consistent Performance in IPL, Says Former Wicketkeeper Parthiv Patel

Former Indian wicketkeeper Parthiv Patel has lauded the selection of off-spinner Varun Chakravarthy for the upcoming T20I series against Bangladesh, attributing it to his consistent performance in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Chakravarthy, who last played for India in the 2021 T20 World Cup, has been rewarded for his impressive bowling on the challenging Kolkata pitch, where he has consistently delivered for the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).

“He has been rewarded for what he has done in the last couple of years on a difficult Kolkata wicket. It’s not been as spin-friendly or as dusty as it has been in the past,” said Patel, highlighting Chakravarthy’s resilience in extracting wickets despite unfavorable conditions.

Patel also acknowledged that while Chakravarthy’s selection in the 2021 World Cup was surprising given the pitch conditions, his current selection is based on merit. “The selectors are looking at skill-set and performance,” he explained. “Varun has been around for a while and making a comeback is not easy. You have to consistently perform well.”

Chakravarthy’s return comes after a period of absence, during which he showcased his bowling prowess for KKR, claiming 21 wickets in the last season and contributing significantly to the team’s title victory.

The T20I series against Bangladesh is set to begin on October 6th in Gwalior, where Chakravarthy will look to add to his tally of two wickets in six T20Is.
