**Lagos, Nigeria** – The 2024 Ships & Ports Maritime Cup, Nigeria’s premier maritime sporting event, will kick off on Tuesday, October 15th, with a highly anticipated match between defending champions Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) and 2010 winners Micura Stevedoring Services. The tournament, organized by Ships & Ports Communication Company, brings together top industry players from both the public and private sectors.

The 15-year-old event, officiated by FIFA badge referees from the Lagos State Referees Council, will see participants compete for the prestigious trophy until November 6th.

The tournament is divided into three groups. Group A features 2009 champions Nigerian Navy, Apapa Bulk Terminal Limited (ABTL), the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), and 2019 champions ENL Consortium Limited. Group B includes five-time champions Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), APM Terminals, the Nigerian Shippers’ Council, and Comet Shipping Agencies Nigeria.

Group C is where the opening clash will take place, with defending champions NPA facing off against 2010 champions Micura Stevedoring Services, along with Trucks Transit Parks (TTP).

“Beyond the competition, it serves as a platform to foster unity, teamwork, and collaboration among stakeholders,” said Bolaji Akinola, CEO of Ships & Ports Communication Company. “It encourages friendship and networking, promoting a sense of community and cooperation that is crucial for the growth and development of the maritime industry.”

Adesegun Kosoko, Head of the Technical Committee of the tournament, emphasized the commitment to fair play and entertainment. “A comprehensive code of conduct has been entrenched to guarantee a thrilling and equitable competition,” said Kosoko, a former Chairman of the Lagos State Referees Council.

The Ships & Ports Maritime Cup is expected to draw significant attention from across the maritime sector, showcasing talent and promoting camaraderie amongst industry professionals.
