**Port Harcourt, Rivers State** – The Action Peoples Party (APP) has secured a resounding victory in the Rivers State Local Government elections held on Saturday, October 5th, winning 22 out of 23 chairmanship positions.
The results were announced by the Chairman of the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC), Justice Adolphus Enebeli, who stated that the APP secured the majority of valid votes cast in two-thirds of the wards within the respective Local Government Areas.
The election, which saw a large turnout of voters despite heavy rainfall, was deemed “smooth, safe, free, fair, credible, transparent, all-inclusive, successful, violence-free, and most treasured” by Justice Enebeli.
He attributed the success of the election to the commitment of political parties, the Rivers State people, and the efforts of the commission to ensure a transparent and credible process.
While the results for Etche Local Government Area were held back due to the extensive collation process, Justice Enebeli assured the public that these results, along with those for the 319 councillorship positions, will be announced shortly.
The election was conducted across all 6,866 polling units within the 319 political wards, with 18 out of 19 registered political parties participating. The RSIEC Chairman commended the enthusiasm of the electorate and their peaceful participation in the democratic process.
