Sun Oct 06 07:53:07 UTC 2024: ## Rizwan Likely to Lead Pakistan in All Formats Despite Top Management Hesitation

With Babar Azam stepping down from the captaincy of both the ODI and T20I teams, former Pakistan cricketer Mudassar Nazar believes wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan is the frontrunner to take over the reins. Despite a lack of full confidence from the top management, Nazar suggests that Rizwan is the only viable option.

“They don’t have any choice left,” Nazar told Cricket Pakistan. “They’ve tried everyone except Rizwan. They’ll be forced to choose him.”

Babar’s resignation follows a string of poor performances by Pakistan in recent ICC tournaments, including the 2023 ODI World Cup and 2024 T20 World Cup. The team’s struggles have even extended to the Test format, with a recent 2-0 whitewash at home against Bangladesh.

Nazar believes that making Rizwan captain across all formats is the best solution, arguing that appointing a younger player would likely result in a similar situation to Babar’s captaincy. He advocates for a senior player to lead the team while mentoring a potential future captain.

Pakistan’s upcoming three-match Test series against England, starting on October 7th in Multan, could be the first test of Rizwan’s captaincy if the selection committee decides to go ahead with him.
