Sun Oct 06 04:52:01 UTC 2024: ## BBC Slammed for Giving Top Billing to Iran’s Supreme Leader

The BBC faced heavy criticism last night for its coverage of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei’s sermon during Friday prayers, specifically for placing it in the forefront of their news channel. Critics pointed to the organization’s refusal to label Hamas as terrorists despite their atrocities, and the inclusion of a headline stating that Hamas’s October 7 massacre was “logical and legal.”

Tory MP Greg Smith condemned the BBC’s reporting, saying it consistently appears to be on the side of the aggressor. “We saw last year in the aftermath of the October 7 attacks that they refused to call Hamas the terrorists that they really are,” he said. “Now they are giving Iran’s Supreme Leader top billing on their news channel. It seems like there is a consistent pattern at the BBC and bosses there should address this immediately.”

In response to the criticism, a BBC spokesperson stated that “reporting what someone has said, so that people can understand what’s going on, isn’t the same as endorsing their views, and we’re sure our audiences appreciate this.”

However, the BBC’s decision to prioritize Khamenei’s speech and its reluctance to call Hamas terrorists have sparked renewed debate about the organization’s impartiality and its approach to reporting on conflict.
