Mysuru, Karnataka – The 9-day Yoga Dasara commenced yesterday with a grand inauguration ceremony at the MMC&RI Platinum Jubilee Hall. Karnataka’s Health and Family Welfare Minister, Dinesh Gundu Rao, emphasized the importance of Yoga for both physical and mental well-being, highlighting that it was Swami Vivekananda who introduced the practice to the world.

The Minister praised the Health Department’s focus on Yoga, stating that practicing it is vital for a healthy life. He also expressed confidence that Mysuru, which draws thousands of tourists for its Yoga Dasara celebrations, is on its way to becoming the “Yoga City.”

The event showcased a variety of impressive performances including Yoga dance by children from the Udayagiri Wisdom School for the specially-abled, intricate Yogasanas by women from Hoskote’s Swami Vivekananda Yoga Samiti, and representations of Lord Shiva’s postures by students of Ayush Ayurveda Mandira.

Six individuals were recognized for their dedication to Yoga with the “Yoga Siri” award, including Devaraju, Yogakumar, Satyavathi, Chandru, Bapu R. Nachiket and Rama R. Kedilaya.

The vibrant and engaging performances by various Yoga teams from schools, colleges, and associations, along with the award ceremony, highlighted the city’s deep commitment to the practice.
