**Colorado Springs, CO** – A man was fatally shot on Saturday afternoon during a youth football game at the Atlas Prep School campus, prompting an investigation by the Colorado Springs Police Department.

According to police, the shooting occurred shortly before 2:30 p.m. after a verbal altercation escalated between two men in the parking lot. One of the men allegedly pulled out a handgun and fired at the other, striking him at least once. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

The suspect, who has not been identified, is still at large. Detectives are actively pursuing leads in an attempt to locate him.

Atlas Schools CEO Brittney Stroh confirmed the incident took place on school grounds but emphasized that the event was not affiliated with the school. The school rents out its sports fields and facilities to external groups on weekends. In this instance, Pikes Peak Pop Warner Youth Football and Cheer was hosting several youth league games at the Atlas Prep fields on Saturday.

While the incident occurred on school property, officials assured the public that neither Atlas students nor staff were involved or affected by the shooting.

“Our condolences go out to the family and friends affected by this tragedy,” stated Stroh in a Facebook post.
