**Nadi, Fiji** – Four high-profile figures in Fiji, including former Attorney-General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum and former Fiji Airways executives Shaenaz Voss and Sharun Ali, were granted bail on Wednesday after being charged with a total of 66 counts of various offenses. The charges, filed by the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), relate to alleged corruption, abuse of office, and breaches of aviation security regulations.
Sayed-Khaiyum faces the most serious charges, including unlawful carriage of a firearm on an aircraft, receiving corrupt benefit, breach of trust, and abuse of office. Voss is charged with giving a corrupt benefit, while Ali is charged with the same offense and also faces charges related to breaches of airline security. Fiji Airlines T/A Fiji Link is also facing charges for breaches of aviation security.
The accused were granted bail by the Magistrate’s Court in Nadi, with a non-cash bond of $10,000. As a condition of their bail, they must surrender their passports, provide two sureties, adhere to stop-departure orders, and refrain from interfering with prosecution witnesses.
The prosecution, represented by Acting Assistant Director of Public Prosecutions Laisani Tabuakuro, did not object to bail but requested a cash bail bond of $50,000 and stricter conditions, including that Ali, who remains employed by Fiji Airways, stay away from prosecution witnesses who work for Fiji Link. Tabuakuro also requested six weeks to submit the second phase of disclosures.
The case will be called again on November 14th.
