The first Kolkata derby of the Indian Super League (ISL) season is set to ignite the Salt Lake Stadium on October 5th, as Mohun Bagan Super Giant hosts ISL newcomers Mohammedan Sporting. The match has been further fueled by off-field drama. Bagan’s social media post calling the match a “Mini Derby” sparked outrage among Sporting officials and fans, who insist this is a “Super Derby.”
“We rose through the ranks from the second division and some other clubs get investors, pay the entry fee and play the league, that’s why they are ‘Big’ and we ‘Mini’?” questioned one fan, highlighting the historical rivalry between the two clubs.
