**MUREHWA, ZIMBABWE -** An abandoned Volvo bus parked near the Magaya turnoff in Murehwa has been consumed by fire, baffling local villagers who have long considered the bus a mysterious entity.
The bus, destined for Malawi, had been left abandoned in 2019 after a mechanical fault rendered it unrepairable. Despite numerous attempts to strip it for parts, thieves were unsuccessful, leading to speculation about its unusual resilience.
Villagers were left bewildered on a recent September afternoon as a mysterious fire erupted from the bus’s interior, rapidly engulfing it in flames. The blaze, which could be seen from Murehwa Centre, drew a crowd of onlookers who watched in awe as the bus’s metal skin warped and melted under the intense heat.
“I saw a cloud of smoke and realized the bus was on fire,” said Ferlon Sigauke, a local villager. “We don’t know what caused the fire. It’s mysterious. Everything about this bus is mysterious. It survived theft all these years, only to be destroyed by fire like this.”
