Sat Oct 05 04:57:00 UTC 2024: ## Telford United’s Flooded Pitch Saved By Community Spirit

**Telford, Shropshire** – AFC Telford United manager Kevin Wilkin has praised the “great” volunteers who helped the club recover after severe flooding at the SEAH Stadium last week. The incident left the pitch completely submerged, along with the concourses and changing facilities.

Despite the devastation, the club was able to host Cleethorpes Town this afternoon thanks to the tireless efforts of volunteers. “It’s a credit to the people of Telford and everyone else that has mucked in,” said Wilkin. “The changing rooms were underwater, and we had a lot to overcome. It shows how many great people are associated with this club.”

The flooding occurred on the same day the SEAH Stadium was scheduled to host a Premier League International Cup fixture between Wolves under-21s and AS Monaco. Telford’s first team was training at Lilleshall at the time, unaware of the extent of the damage.

“The first picture I saw looked as though about 20 or 30 metres were affected, and then I think about half-an-hour later the place is completely submerged,” Wilkin explained. “It had gone from one point to something just unbelievable really.”

Thousands of pounds worth of damage was done, but the club is partly covered by insurance. A GoFundMe page set up to help with the recovery process has already raised over £6,000. “It’s important that players, just like everyone else associated with the club, care deeply about the football club,” Wilkin said. “We want players who understand the wider effect this club has on people.”

The club has expressed its gratitude to all those who have contributed to the recovery effort, highlighting the strong community spirit that exists around AFC Telford United.
