Fri Oct 04 04:31:40 UTC 2024: ## India Offers Condolences and Support to Nepal Following Devastating Floods
**Kathmandu, Nepal** – The Indian Ambassador to Nepal, Naveen Srivastava, has expressed deep condolences to Nepal following the devastating floods and landslides that ravaged the Himalayan nation last week. The disaster has claimed the lives of 241 people, with 29 still missing.
Srivastava conveyed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s message of solidarity to Nepali Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, assuring him that India stands ready to provide all possible assistance for relief and reconstruction efforts.
“India stands in solidarity with the people of Nepal at this difficult time,” said Srivastava. “We are ready to extend all possible assistance as required by the Government of Nepal for its relief and reconstruction efforts.”
The heavy rainfall, which began last week, triggered landslides and flash floods, causing widespread destruction across Nepal. The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA) has issued warnings of potential further heavy rainfall and urged people to exercise caution while traveling.
The NDRRMA has estimated that 412,000 households have been impacted by the monsoon-related disasters. This year’s monsoon season has been particularly severe, with the monsoon winds extending into late October.
The Indian government’s swift response highlights the strong ties between the two countries and underscores India’s commitment to supporting Nepal in times of crisis.
