Sat Oct 05 07:08:10 UTC 2024: ## Vinesh Phogat Urges Haryana Voters to Support Congress, Citing Women’s Rights
Julana, Haryana – Olympian wrestler Vinesh Phogat, Congress candidate for the Julana assembly constituency, appealed to voters on Saturday to cast their ballot for the party that “works for the rights of women,” a clear indication of her support for the Congress party.
“The elections are like a festival for the people of Haryana. It’s a big day for the state,” Phogat said after casting her vote in Charkhi Dadri. She highlighted the Congress’s commitment to women’s rights, while subtly criticizing the ruling BJP’s track record.
Phogat also expressed confidence in the party’s chances of winning, stating, “Hope of victory is always there.” She further criticized the BJP’s policies, reminding voters of the “harm they did to the farmers and others.”
Phogat, who joined the Congress alongside fellow wrestler Bajrang Punia in September, expressed admiration for former Chief Minister Bhupinder Hooda, praising his contributions to sports development during his tenure.
The Haryana elections are witnessing a fierce contest between the BJP, AAP, Congress, and JJP. The BJP seeks a third term in power while Congress aims to capitalize on perceived anti-incumbency sentiment.
With 1,031 candidates vying for 70 seats, voting is underway across Haryana from 7 am to 6 pm. The results are expected to be declared on October 8th.
