Sat Oct 05 03:36:48 UTC 2024: ## Haryana Goes to Polls Today, 1031 Candidates Vie for 90 Seats
Haryana witnessed a month-long, intense election campaign culminating today as the state goes to the polls for its 90-member legislative assembly. With 1031 candidates vying for the seats, a total of 20,632 polling booths are set up across the state for the 2.03 crore voters. The counting of votes will take place on October 8th.
The election is a high-stakes battle between the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), seeking a third consecutive term, and the Congress, aiming to recapture power after a decade. The BJP focused on garnering non-Jat votes, while the Congress campaigned on issues like the government’s anti-farmer policies, the wrestlers’ protest, and the Agniveer scheme.
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), contesting the assembly elections for the first time, and the Jannayak Janata Party (JJP), which secured 10 seats in the previous election, are expected to put up a strong fight.
The election is further complicated by the presence of around 69 rebel candidates from both the BJP and Congress. The state has enhanced security measures for the polls.
The exit polls for Haryana and Jammu and Kashmir will be released after the completion of the polls.
