**Paro, Bhutan:** The Bhutan Innovation Forum (BIF), held from October 1 to 3 at Dungkar Dzong in Pangbisa, Paro, brought together global leaders, innovators, and entrepreneurs to advance Bhutan’s vision for a mindfulness city. The forum, which saw participation from over 125 speakers representing 60 countries, laid out a comprehensive roadmap for the development of Gelephu Mindfulness City (GMC), an ambitious project envisioned by His Majesty the King of Bhutan.
The GMC, officially announced in December 2023, aims to create a model city that integrates mindfulness, sustainability, and ethical practices. The forum included dynamic workshops, networking sessions, and discussions focused on topics such as mindful innovation, sustainable development, and building a knowledge economy.
A key highlight was the appointment of Mun Leong Liew as CEO of the GMC, tasked with bringing the vision to life. Former Prime Minister Dr Lotay Tshering was also appointed Governor, overseeing the domestic implementation of the GMC strategy.
The forum also saw the announcement of ORO Bank, Asia’s first full-reserve digital bank, and the introduction of “Ter,” a new blockchain-based currency backed by physical gold.
Discussions centered on establishing a strong legal framework for the GMC, with Singaporean law chosen as the primary legal framework to ensure a globally recognized and accessible system.
The BIF also featured a diverse lineup of entrepreneurs and business leaders, who discussed the role of art in driving innovation, leveraging technology for prosperity, attracting global talent, and exploring emerging opportunities in Bhutan.
The forum concluded with discussions on entrepreneurship and sustainability, emphasizing the importance of addressing climate change risks and harnessing Bhutan’s abundant renewable resources.
The BIF served as a platform to showcase Bhutan’s commitment to sustainable development and mindful living, highlighting the country’s potential to become a global leader in creating a more conscious and equitable future.
