**Shillong, Meghalaya:** The Meghalaya Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan Schools’ Association (MSSASA), representing SSA teachers in the state, has given the Meghalaya government a two-month deadline to implement a policy guaranteeing their permanent employment.
The association, after a series of discussions and consultations, has chosen to prioritize a policy that ensures job security for SSA teachers over immediate salary increases. This decision was made after analyzing the employment policies implemented in other states across the country.
“We have chosen to demand a policy that provides permanent employment for SSA teachers in Meghalaya, mirroring the practices seen in other states,” said MSSASA President Bah Aristotle C Rymbai. “We have given the government two months to formulate and implement this policy. During this period, the Education Department must complete all necessary procedures and submit the proposal to the Chief Minister for final approval.”
The association has also warned that if the government fails to meet this demand, they will be forced to resort to more aggressive forms of protest.
The decision to demand permanent employment was taken during a meeting on October 2nd, following the General Executive Council (GEC) meeting held on September 21st. The meeting was convened after receiving information from officials within the Education Department regarding the state government’s plan to absorb SSA teachers as government employees.
The MSSASA hopes that this move will ensure job security and stability for the state’s SSA teachers, who have been working on contractual basis for years.
