Sat Oct 05 09:51:36 UTC 2024: ## Australian Women’s Cricketer Phoebe Litchfield Fit for T20 World Cup Opener

**Sharjah, October 4 (IANS):** Australian all-rounder Phoebe Litchfield, who missed both practice matches due to back pain, is expected to be fit for Australia’s opening T20 World Cup match against Sri Lanka at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium on Saturday.

The 21-year-old Litchfield trained with her teammates on Thursday and is in contention for selection. “It was tough missing the practice matches, but I’m feeling good now. I’m excited to be back on the field and contribute to the team,” Litchfield said.

Australia has never played at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium and did not get a chance to train at the venue before Saturday’s match. The slow, turning track has already proven challenging for teams in the tournament.

In the opening double-header, Bangladesh defended a score of 119 against Scotland, while Sri Lanka struggled in a low-scoring encounter against Pakistan, where spin dominated. Spinners claimed a total of 22 wickets in both matches, highlighting the favorable conditions for slow bowlers.

“For me, it’s about being in the moment and adapting to the conditions as quickly as possible,” Litchfield said. “Sharjah is going to be a challenge, but we are ready for it.”

Leg-spinner Alana King could be recalled to provide more spin options, especially considering the conditions. If Litchfield is fit, the team will have to consider their options with Grace Harris also in contention, offering batting depth and a handy spin option herself.
