Fri Oct 04 12:50:12 UTC 2024: ## India Women Aim for Cup Glory, Begin T20 World Cup Campaign Against New Zealand

**Dubai:** The Indian women’s cricket team, determined to finally achieve their World Cup dream, are poised for their first match in the T20 World Cup against New Zealand. Harmanpreet Kaur’s team will face off against the Kiwis in a Group A clash on Friday evening, with the match kicking off at 7:30 PM.

The Indian women’s team is aware that every match in their group will be challenging as each opponent presents a formidable threat. A strong start is crucial to their chances of making it to the semi-finals. With Australia dominating the group, India and New Zealand are likely to compete for the second spot. Therefore, securing a win in their opening encounter is paramount.

India has been in good form recently, winning both warm-up matches. However, their batting performance has lagged behind their bowlers. The top three batters, Smriti Mandhana, Shafali Verma, and Harmanpreet Kaur, struggled to find their rhythm in the warm-ups. They will need to perform against the Kiwis to set the tone for the tournament. Jemimah Rodrigues, on the other hand, is in excellent form, while Richa Ghosh’s contribution in the middle order is pivotal for finishing innings strongly. Deepti Sharma and Pooja Vastrakar are expected to deliver all-round performances, particularly with the ball, where they are in good form. In Dubai, spin bowlers are expected to play a significant role, making Deepti, along with Ashwani Sobhana and Radha Yadav, key figures in deciding the match’s outcome.

New Zealand poses a significant threat, boasting a strong contingent of all-rounders. The most prominent amongst them is Amelia Kerr, a world-renowned all-rounder. Captain Sophie Devine, Lea Tahuhu, Brooke Halliday, and opener Suzie Bates also contribute significantly with both bat and ball. The Kiwi bowling attack is bolstered by the likes of Jess Kerr, Molly Penfold, and Fran Jonas. Limiting Amelia, Sophie, and Suzie will be key to India’s success.

Despite a slightly negative head-to-head record in T20s (4-9), New Zealand has recently struggled, facing whitewashes against Australia and England in T20 series.

The match promises to be an exciting encounter, with both teams looking to make a strong statement at the start of the tournament.
