Fri Oct 04 14:18:01 UTC 2024: ## South Africa Women Dominate West Indies in T20 World Cup Opener

**Dubai, UAE:** South Africa Women kicked off their ICC Women’s T20 World Cup campaign with a resounding 10-wicket victory over the West Indies in Dubai on Friday.

The West Indies, the 2016 champions, were restricted to 118/6 after struggling to build momentum throughout their innings. Stafanie Taylor top-scored with a patient 44, but her efforts were in vain against a dominant South African bowling attack. Left-arm spinner Nonkululeko Mlaba shone, taking a career-best 4/29, while Marizanne Kapp chipped in with 2/14.

South Africa’s chase was a masterclass in controlled aggression. Captain Laura Wolvaardt (53*) and Tazmin Brits (50*) guided their team to victory with 13 balls to spare, remaining largely untroubled throughout their partnership.

Mlaba was named Player of the Match for her impressive performance, highlighting her commitment to target the stumps. Wolvaardt praised her team’s all-round effort and highlighted the need to adapt their approach while batting.

West Indies captain Hayley Matthews acknowledged the disappointing performance and expressed hope for a stronger showing in their upcoming match against tournament debutants Scotland.

The victory sets South Africa up for their next challenge against England on Monday in Sharjah, while the West Indies will be looking to bounce back quickly. The tournament continues with India facing New Zealand in Dubai later today.
