Dubai, UAE – South Africa dominated West Indies in their Group B encounter at the Women’s T20 World Cup, securing a convincing 8-wicket victory with 13 balls to spare.

The Proteas bowlers set the tone early, removing both West Indies openers within the powerplay. Marizanne Kapp took the prized wicket of Hayley Matthews, while Nonkululeko Mlaba dismissed Qiana Joseph. Dottin fell to Kapp in the third over, but Taylor and Campbelle stabilized the innings with a 30-run partnership.

Mlaba, however, proved to be the thorn in West Indies’ side, picking up four wickets for 29 runs, including a double-wicket maiden. West Indies eventually finished their innings on 118/6, with Taylor retiring hurt after a valiant innings in the heat.

The target was never going to be a challenge for South Africa, and their openers, Laura Wolvaardt (59*) and Tazmin Brits (57*), made light work of the chase. Wolvaardt was particularly impressive, hitting a glorious drive early in the powerplay, setting the tone for a dominant display.
