**Abu Dhabi:** South Africa showcased their dominance in the opening ODI of the three-match series against Ireland, securing a comprehensive 139-run victory.
After winning the toss and electing to bat, South Africa amassed a formidable total of 271-9, thanks to a brilliant century stand between opener Ryan Rickelton (91 runs) and Tristan Stubbs (79 runs). The duo’s 152-run partnership for the fourth wicket helped South Africa recover from an early slump.
Lizaad Williams then spearheaded South Africa’s bowling attack, decimating Ireland’s top order with a remarkable 4-32 spell, his best ODI figures. Lungi Ngidi and Bjorn Fortuin contributed with two wickets each as Ireland was bowled out for a meager 132 in 31.5 overs. George Dockrell top-scored for Ireland with 21 runs.
Mark Adair, who had starred in Ireland’s historic T20 victory on Sunday, claimed 4-50 for Ireland in this match. Despite his valiant effort, it wasn’t enough to prevent South Africa from claiming a convincing win in the series opener.
The ODI series, like the preceding T20 series, is being held in Abu Dhabi.
