Fri Oct 04 17:05:17 UTC 2024: ## FC Goa’s Coach Defends Kattimani Signing Amidst Defensive Woes

**PANJIM, INDIA -** FC Goa’s head coach, Manolo Marquez, addressed concerns about the club’s decision to bring in veteran goalkeeper Laxmikant Kattimani during the summer transfer window. The Gaurs have struggled defensively in the early stages of the Indian Super League (ISL) season, currently sitting in a precarious position with just 4 points from 3 games.

Marquez acknowledged the ongoing discussion about the team’s defensive setup, stating that “it is a topic of discussion, but that is the reality.” He explained that the team’s center-backs, Odei Onaindia and Nim Dorjee Tamang, performed well last season, but the entire team needs to improve defensively.

Speaking specifically about Kattimani, Marquez expressed confidence in the goalkeeper, highlighting his professionalism and resilience. He emphasized that Kattimani is “very complete” and fits perfectly into FC Goa’s style of play, referencing his performance in their ISL-winning season.

The coach also addressed the club’s decision to let go of goalkeepers Dheeraj Singh and Arshdeep Singh, stating that the team is focused on building a strong defensive unit.

FC Goa will be hoping to bounce back from their lackluster start when they face NorthEast United FC in their next ISL match.
