Fri Oct 04 17:04:53 UTC 2024: ## India Bowlers Fail to Contain New Zealand in World Cup Opener

**Cape Town, South Africa:** India’s bowlers struggled to contain a dominant New Zealand batting lineup in the first match of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup on Saturday. New Zealand, winning the toss and electing to bat, posted a formidable 160/4 in their allotted 20 overs, leaving India with a challenging chase.

Captain Sophia Devine led the charge with a blistering half-century (57), emerging as the top scorer for New Zealand. She anchored the innings after early losses of openers, Georgia Plimmer (34) and Suzie Bates (27), who provided a quickfire start for the Kiwis.

Renuka Singh Thakur was the pick of the Indian bowlers, claiming two wickets. Arundhati Reddy and Asha Sobhana chipped in with a wicket each.

India will need to put up a strong chase in the second innings to secure a victory. The chase is set to be a test of their batting skills against a strong New Zealand bowling attack.
