Fri Oct 04 14:10:46 UTC 2024: ## Former Haryana Congress Chief Ashok Tanwar Returns to Party Ahead of State Elections
**Chandigarh, October 3, 2024:** In a significant development ahead of the Haryana Assembly elections, former Congress leader Ashok Tanwar rejoined the party on Thursday. The move comes just two days before polling in the state, scheduled for October 5.
Tanwar, who served as the Haryana Congress chief, had left the party in 2019 and subsequently joined the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in 2022. He had also briefly joined the Trinamool Congress before resigning from the AAP, protesting its alliance with the Congress for the Lok Sabha elections. Earlier this year, Tanwar joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the presence of then Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, praising Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership.
His return to the Congress, facilitated by Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi, is seen as a potential boost for the party in the upcoming election. Tanwar’s previous victory in the 2009 Lok Sabha elections from Sirsa with a massive margin adds weight to his return.
With the elections just around the corner, Tanwar’s decision to rejoin the Congress could have a considerable impact on the political landscape of Haryana.
