Fri Oct 04 02:09:13 UTC 2024: ## Congress Gains Momentum in Haryana Ahead of Assembly Elections: Former MP Ashok Tanwar Rejoins Party
**Chandigarh, October 2, 2023:** Just two days before the Haryana Assembly elections, the BJP has suffered a significant setback with the return of former MP Ashok Tanwar to the Congress party. Tanwar, who had joined the BJP only eight months ago, rejoined the Congress in the presence of Rahul Gandhi and Bhupendra Singh Hooda in Bawania village, Mahendragarh district. Tanwar was welcomed by Rahul Gandhi, who presented him with a Congress shawl.
Tanwar, a former Lok Sabha MP from Sirsa and former Haryana Congress president, had left the party in 2019. He subsequently joined the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and later the BJP. He cited the AAP’s decision to join the INDIA alliance as the reason for his resignation from the party.
Reacting to Tanwar’s return, BJP leader Anil Vij took a swipe at him, calling him a “migratory bird” who flits from one party to another. He claimed that such individuals neither benefit nor harm any party and that the people of Haryana will reject them.
The Congress hailed Tanwar’s return as a strengthening of their fight for the rights of Dalits.
The Haryana Assembly elections are scheduled for October 5, with results to be declared on October 8. The elections are particularly crucial for the Congress, which seeks to regain its footing in the state after losing power in the 2014 Assembly elections.
With the campaigning drawing to a close, all major political parties are making a final push to secure the votes of the electorate.
