Thu Oct 03 01:24:48 UTC 2024: ## Festive Demand Drives Up Flower and Fruit Prices in Bhagalpur

**Bhagalpur:** With the onset of Shardiya Navratri, Bhagalpur’s markets are experiencing a surge in demand for flowers and fruits, leading to a price hike.

According to local flower vendors, the demand for flowers like marigold, adhul, aparajita, lotus, rose, and rajnigandha has increased threefold, leading to a 20% price increase. For instance, red marigold, which previously cost ₹300 per kuddi, now sells for ₹400. Similarly, the price of adhul has doubled, now costing ₹2 per piece.

The price increase is attributed to a decline in flower production due to heavy rainfall in Kolkata and Bengaluru.

The fruit market is also witnessing a price surge, with fruits like pomegranate, apples, oranges, and seasonal fruits seeing a ₹20 per kg price increase. The increased demand during the festive season is primarily responsible for this hike.

The rising prices are putting a strain on consumers’ wallets, but the festive fervor seems to be overriding concerns about the cost of celebration.
