Wed Oct 02 15:28:43 UTC 2024: ## Prashant Kishor’s New Party, Jan Suraaj, Sets Sights on Bihar With Former Ambassador as Working President

Patna, India: Election strategist-turned-politician Prashant Kishor has officially launched his new political outfit, Jan Suraaj Party (JSP), with former Indian ambassador Manoj Bharti as its working president. The party aims to contest all constituencies in the upcoming Bihar assembly election next year.

Bharti, a graduate of IIT Kanpur and Delhi, boasts an impressive diplomatic career. He has served as India’s ambassador to Ukraine, Belarus, Timor-Leste, and Indonesia. In his last posting in Indonesia, he managed visits of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and 13 ministers, focusing on strengthening defense, security, and education cooperation.

Kishor, known for his successful election campaigns, founded the JSP after a 3,000-km padyatra across Bihar, beginning from Champaran, where Mahatma Gandhi launched the first Satyagraha. His vision is to provide a new political alternative that tackles Bihar’s chronic backwardness.

Kishor has pledged to invest Rs 5 lakh crore in Bihar’s education system over the next decade to create a world-class infrastructure. He also promised to immediately end the liquor ban in Bihar if the JSP comes to power.

The JSP, which has been active for two years, received official approval from the Election Commission earlier this week. The party’s campaign has been ongoing for several years, with supporters eagerly awaiting the official launch.

The JSP’s entry into the political fray in Bihar is likely to shake up the state’s electoral landscape. With a charismatic leader like Kishor and a seasoned diplomat like Bharti, the party aims to capitalize on the public’s desire for change and offer a compelling alternative to existing political forces.
