Thu Oct 03 02:56:58 UTC 2024: ## Sarfaraz Khan Scores Double Century in Irani Cup, Ignites Calls for Test Selection

**Hyderabad, India:** Young Indian batsman Sarfaraz Khan is making a strong case for a Test selection with a phenomenal performance in the Irani Cup. The Mumbai batsman, who has been in stellar form, smashed a double century against Rest of India on Wednesday, putting on a show for the spectators.

Khan, who reached his century off just 150 balls, achieved his double ton in another 103 deliveries, hitting a total of 23 fours and 3 sixes in his innings of 216. This innings made him the first batsman to score a double century in the Irani Cup for Mumbai.

The young batsman also etched his name in the history books by becoming the fourth youngest player to achieve a double century in the Irani Cup, at the age of 26 years and 346 days. This list is currently topped by another promising batsman, Yashasvi Jaiswal, who achieved the feat at 21 years and 63 days.

The Mumbai team ended Day 2 with a score of 516/8, with Khan remaining unbeaten on 216 and Shardul Thakur on 21.

Sarfaraz was recently included in India’s Test squad for the series against Bangladesh. However, he was not given an opportunity to play in either of the two matches. Instead, he was released from the squad for the Irani Cup and the Duleep Trophy.

His current form and impressive double century have sparked discussions among cricket experts and fans, who are calling for his inclusion in the upcoming three-match Test series against New Zealand, starting on October 16th.

“Sarfaraz is sending a clear message to the selectors,” said one cricket analyst. “His consistent performances, especially this double century, deserve serious consideration for the New Zealand series.”

With India looking for a suitable replacement for veteran batsmen Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane, Sarfaraz’s performance has added fuel to the debate. Whether he gets the nod for the New Zealand series remains to be seen, but his recent form undoubtedly puts him in a strong position for selection.
