**New Delhi, October 1, 2024:** Tata Power has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Rajasthan government to invest a whopping Rs 1.2 lakh crore over the next 10 years, aiming to transform the state’s power sector and make it a power surplus state with 24/7 clean, affordable, and reliable power supply.
This ambitious plan, unveiled during the ‘Rising Rajasthan’ Investor Meet in New Delhi, will place Rajasthan at the forefront of India’s clean energy transition. It involves a comprehensive investment across the power value chain, from generation to transmission and distribution (T&D) reforms.
The investment will be channeled into various key areas:
* **Green Energy:** A significant Rs 75,000 crore will be dedicated to green energy projects across the state, including solar, wind, hybrid, and battery energy storage systems (BESS).
* **Transmission & Distribution:** Rs 20,000 crore will be invested to modernize the grid infrastructure, reducing energy losses and improving power quality.
* **Nuclear Power:** Rs 10,000 crore will be allocated to explore opportunities for developing a nuclear power plant in the state.
* **EV Charging:** Rs 1,000 crore will be used to set up 1 lakh EV charging points across Rajasthan, promoting electric mobility.
* **Rooftop Solar:** Rs 1,000 crore will be earmarked for supporting the PM Surya Ghar Yojana, enabling rooftop solar power installations for 10 lakh households.
The MoU is expected to create over 28,000 direct jobs in Rajasthan. Tata Power expects the large-scale integration of renewables to lower energy costs for industries and consumers, making Rajasthan an attractive destination for green investments and sustainable industrial development.
“Tata Power will strengthen the growth of local industries in areas such as solar manufacturing, infrastructure development, and renewable energy innovations,” said a company spokesperson.
Tata Power already has a significant footprint in Rajasthan, having successfully commissioned 1 GW of solar projects, 185 MW of wind projects, and 130 MW of rooftop solar installations in the state. This new investment further strengthens its commitment to the state’s sustainable energy future.
