**Chennai, October 1, 2023:** In observance of Mahatma Gandhi’s birthday, Chennai District Collector R. Rashmi Siddhartha Jagade has ordered the closure of all TASMAC liquor shops and bars in the city.
The order, issued on September 30th, states that all TASMAC (FL-1) retail liquor shops, FL-2 licensed clubs, FL-3 licensed hotels, and FL-3 (A) and FL-3 (AA) licensed bars will be closed on October 2nd. The sale of alcohol is strictly prohibited during this period. Any violations will result in stringent action, the Collector warned.
This decision aims to promote a respectful and sober atmosphere on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti.
