**Pune, India** – A helicopter crashed near Bawdhan in Pune on Wednesday morning, killing three people, including two pilots and an engineer. The helicopter, which had taken off from the Oxford Golf Club helipad, was reportedly en route to Mumbai when it crashed.
Initial reports suggest that the dense fog that blanketed Pune early Wednesday morning could have contributed to the crash. Local residents reported seeing the helicopter crash into a ravine near Hinjewadi. While fog is being considered as a primary cause, the possibility of a technical malfunction has not been ruled out.
The location of the crash, deep within a hilly area, made rescue efforts difficult. Rescue teams and ambulances took over an hour to reach the site.
The helicopter had been previously used by Sunil Tatkare, a Member of Parliament from the Ajit Pawar faction, who had traveled in it the day before. It was returning to pick up Tatkare when the crash occurred.
Fire department officials, who arrived at the scene, confirmed the deaths of the three individuals. While it is confirmed that the helicopter was carrying at least three passengers, there are concerns that there may have been more on board.
